Jean Serge DRUMS
Jean serge is en enthusiastic drum teacher and performer. With an American mother and a Russian father, Jean Serge grew up in a multicultural and artistic environment of music and art. He studied piano and flute before throwing himself into percussion and, more precisely, drum set. His musical studies started at l’école Atla as well as the Cité de la Musique, and finally in Remua, Bruxelles.
It is as a drummer and singer that he is seen on stage and at festivals. Drawn in by the different esthetics of music, the discovery of Bresillian percussion brought him to participate in batucadas as well (Batala, Sambatuc), alternating between caixa, surdo, and repinique. He explores new sounds on the cajon, udu, and other small percussion instruments in his afro-folk trio Tchivol.
Additionally, alongside his teaching and performing career, Jean Serge also composes film music and records for many artists.
Jean Serge joined the faculty of The American Conservatory of Paris in 2022.
